When you are down and out.....

The last few weeks was hell. I was down with flu and my fever was making me weak. Workload was piling and deadline was drawing near. I was frustrated and angry with myself. What am I to do.....? Seriously, I don't really know.

After having two full day of rest without doing anything and without peeking my computer, I regained my strength but not my momentum. My head is still groggy and my leg felt weak. So, I decided... what the heck. Since I can't go anywhere and my brain refuse to do it's magic, why not do what I always wanted to do but got no time to do it.... papercraft!!!

As you can see, I've made 3. It's pretty easy one's, I know. But it help me get back my sanity. It's very therapeutic and help me to forget work for that moment.

I was enjoying myself that I'm going to do a more difficult ones.... if time permit.

Art Clock - revisited

If you have been following this blog, you may remember my "Art Clock" project that I wanted to kickstart. I met with quite a number of obstacle like difficulty in finding the right material and also a reasonable good quality clock device.

I almost given up, frankly. I've used different material such as backboard made of steel, acrylic and paper hardboard. The end result was somewhat flimsy and doesn't look professional. After some tweaking, I managed to overcome it, but the clock device was not working as good as I expect it to be. (made in China, maybe?) I'm still looking for a good one, so far no luck.

These are two of the latest ones that I did during my free time.

My very own "Metal" T-shirt

My love for heavy metal music had influenced me on my design work and also the way I'm dressed. Attitude wise: I'm mysterious, never-say-die and is willing to work hard for what I believe in.

So, I've always wanted to have my very own "Metal" T-shirt with attitude. From the design below, you will understand how I feel towards life and my ultimate goal..... I have "fire" in my eyes to achieve it!!!! And I don't take NO for an answer!!!

Press Ads & Poster for Akademi Cili Padi

This is a new company dealing with young talent as young as 4yrs old. I've done their corporate ID and now given the task to do their Press Ads, Brochure, certificate & Posters. It was not too difficult because I've done work with similar concept previously. I prefer it to be bright, cheerful and fun.

This is the poster

This is the press ads

I'm still working on the brochure.
Will update it here once it's done.

Course Voucher for NParks

My previous favourite work

While filing old works into my art folio, I came across one of my favourite work I did way back in 2007. It was a flyer done for Darussalam Mosque. It was done within a span of 2 days. The comic was done by a young chap (I forgot his name) but the whole layout and concept was done by me. With tight deadline, it was a real challenge but somehow I made it.

Banner design & prints

Doing banners (design & print) is an art in itself. The canvas size is limited and the info must be precise and compact. Here's some of the recent ones that I've done.

"Microwave-ready pack" Satay

I've been working with Jumain Sataysfactions numerous times designing their packaging & corporate logo. It's been a wonderful partnership and I am always given lots of opportunity and space to explore my design limit.

"Asli" is a brand name for Jumain Sataysfaction. While working on the logo, I took due consideration to its core nature. Asli means natural/original in Malay, so it got to be original and at the same time have that natural feel to it. This brand is very versatile.

Recently, Jumain Sataysfactions is marketing its microwavable satay which took mere minutes to prepare and it's ready to eat. One thing for sure... it's tender and sweet for a microwave satay. Nice! I am given the opportunity to design the packaging. My main aim is to make it identifiable by just one look. I sincerely hope it works.

Hits Swee Swee..... Sweeeet!

I was again given the honour to design another music compilation album by Life Records (S). This one is a compilation of hits song by local Malay talents and will hit the store by december 2008.

Life records always have this thing about giving quirky yet catchy title to its album. This time is Hits Swee Swee! If I'm not wrong, swee means just nice, good, pretty... or something to that effect..

Playing with the chinese word "Swee"..... I decided to have a bit of a chinese feel to it, but not too much until potential buyer (Malay ) may be misled into thinking this is a chinese music album. I've included some chinese elements & motifs. The speaker on the background is a replacement of a "Pak Kua" or shield used by chinese "Feng Shui" geomancer.

Overall, I'm quite happy with the end result... but is very sure there will be major tweak here and there before this album hits the store.

Inspiration from my kids

Recently, I was comissioned again by NParks to design & produce a banner for one of their parks. It's an event targeted at kids aged 5 - 10 yrs old. Initially, I was a bit worried because I got a lot of things in hand that I need to complete and my brain was numb after the Hari Raya celebration (a case of eating & drinking too much).

Luckily, one of my kids (aged 5 this month) gave me an inspiration. She was showing me her artwork on her experience in the neighbourhood park. It was simple, colorful and fun. Well, the rest is history.

The best part is I don't need to use photoshop at all. Everything is pure vector art done from scratch. I think the end product looks fun, clean and eye-catching.

Inspiration from a documentary

I was watching a documentary about child abuse a few weeks ago and it left a very deep impression. I felt disturbed and was always thinking about those neglected children. Some even end up as child prostitutes and slave. What is worse is when the parent themselves sold their kids as prostitutes to clear up their debt.

During those saddened episode, I came up with this picture collages consisting of more than 15 separate pictures I got from www.sxc.hu. Give your own opinion. See if you can feel the mood that I want to portray....

Bedok View Sec. Recruitment brochure

When time is not on your side, you'll try to make do with whatever resources you have in hand to give the best that you can achieve.

I am given the opportunity to design this brochure for BVSS. Unfortunately, the time given is a bit short. I am confident that I can do better than this if given more time, but I guess this is good enough even though I'm not too satisfied with the end result.

Akademi Cili Padi

I'm comissioned to design a corporate logo for a children talent school recently. As per the name of the academy, I've to come up with an illustration of a cartoon character of a cheerful chili. After scouring for various sources, I have a good idea how it will turn out.

From a rough sketch to the computer... this is what I've done. This is not final. I know that there'll be lots of changes here and there, but I guess this first draft is good.

ART CLOCK

I'm currently working on this project of producing what I called "Art Clock". I've been toying with this idea for quite sometime, but don't have the luxury of time to actually sit down and do it. Here are some of the sample that I've done.

What's great about this clock is that it'll have a beautiful background as well as motivational quotes on it. It is also a working wall-clock. If you want it to be personalised (i.e with your own picture as a background), it can be done. There's no minimum quantity required.

For the time being I've not decided on the pricing yet, but I hope it will be affordable to everybody. Do visit here often for updates if you're interested. Or you can email me > pixel3graphic@gmail.com

Hadith posters

I'm working on this posters for Al-Amin mosque. This will probably be printed on A3 & A2 sizes. What's interesting about this project is that it will help to raise fund for the mosque through the sale of the printed posters. Those Jemaah who wish to order them can contact Al-Amin Mosque directly. Here are some of the sample:

Old posters revisited

This four posters is actually re-done from an old posters given to me by Sri Warisan. The original one was handmade, i.e cut and paste. So, I just want to retain that feel. No fancy stuff . No photoshop treatment. This was done totally in CorelDraw.

The pictures were shot from the poster itself using a digital camera. Reason..... I just want to retain a simplistic look to it without having too much frills. Also, I'll definitely have a difficult time to scan an A1 size poster.

I just added some traditional borders and have a watermarked "freehand" writing as a background.

Invitation card for a reunion

This is an invitation card and ticket artwork done for JJC Reunion. This is for electronic mass email as well as for printed copy. I used an old picture of a kampong house and photoshopped it to make it look old and rustic. The whole image is kind of nostalgic. The green leaves & ketupat adds a touch of kampong ambience to it.
